Networking Tech Support; Probably the Best There Is

It is already a headache to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with a single PC let alone with several PCs or worst, with our entire network. My head is throbbing in great pain by just imagining the delay in our services and the impact this downtime can bring into our business in terms of productivity as well as in opportunity loss. It is such a big mess but as the saying goes “when you reach rock bottom, there is nowhere else to go but up.”

To worsen the situation, we do not have an in-house tech support who can fix the problem ASAP. Thankfully, I have been persuaded by a colleague not too long ago to subscribe to a network problem support team. I know they would come in handy but I have no idea it would be this soon.

The start of a long-term partnership

My call was answered on the third ring; I guess that is the SOP. But what happened next really surprised me. I have heard a few things about such companies that usually they are not good, so I was really amazed on how patient and friendly was the guy at the other end of the line.

Troubleshooting and Tutorial in one

He asked me to describe what happened and if there was anything we did to fix the problem. I knew same basic in network troubleshooting, so I knew that the entire network failed. The tech support guy took me for a spin and light-heartedly informed me of the possible reasons why a network fails. Basically there are just four causes:

      A problem with the server
A problem with the hub, router, bridge and other related components
A problem with the cabling and
      A problem with a workstation

Additionally, with today’s complicated networking system, troubleshooting network problems can be a daunting experience as the point of failure can be virtually everywhere. So the first thing we did was to identify the affected PCs.

It turned out that we got a multiple PC failure. Since all of the affected PCs were not new, the guy scratched the possibility that a configuration problem might have caused the PC to fail simultaneously. In the next five minutes, we discovered that all those PCs were connected to a faulty hub. A new hub would rectify the issue.

A pledge

I was jumping for joy that the whole ordeal actually lasted only for 30 minutes! It is really impressive since not all tech companies can provide solutions that fast. The tech guy was really great and the service was exemplary.

If you do not want to experience such inconvenience in running your business, better have the assurance that no matter what happens to your IT infrastructure, you can always call someone who can help you solve your problems in minutes not hours!
